Choir

The Church Choir

Earley St Peter's Church Choir is a mixed choir of all ages from juniors upwards run by David Price (Organist and Director of Music) and Maggie Nunn (Choir Director). The choir sings at church services on Sunday (10.00 am and 6.30 pm) as well as at special services (for example weddings and some midweek services). We sing Choral Evensong on the last Sunday of most months, Mattins a couple of times per year, and occasionally join with choirs from other parishes in the Diocese for joint services.

The Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and participates in the Voice for Life scheme which provides a sound basis for the theory and practice of singing through various levels. We do ask that adults joining us have choral singing experience and are able to read music but hope that junior members will gradually learn this skill during the time they spend with us.

We also have an active social life, so it’s not all hard work – we have an annual party, and choir outings over the past few years have included trips to Cadburyland and on steam engines, as well as a delightfully relaxing afternoon on the Kennet & Avon canal, on a horse-drawn barge! We give concerts once or twice a year in aid of the church and other charities, which give us the chance to learn more varied and lighter musical items and provide a chance for choristers who are also instrumentalists to gain experience in performing.

The choir currently has some 30 members, but we are always looking for new recruits in all voices. If you are at all interested in joining us do please let us know so that we can have an informal chat. We welcome university students (despite the fact that they tend not to be around when we need them most!) and enjoy the diversity of experience which they can provide.

Choir practice is on a Wednesday night from 7.15 to 8.30 pm with additional practices when required at busy times.

The Parish Choir

Our Parish Choir meets on an ad hoc basis and joins us for concerts, the odd wedding and on other occasions when we would like a fuller sound. Members tend to be people who enjoy music, and singing in particular, but perhaps do not have any formal musical training and/or cannot attend choir practices on Wednesday nights. The Parish Choir rehearses on Monday nights (joined by the Church Choir) for a few weeks before a special event.
